On 22 April 2021, we convened for the third instalment of the “Data Sharing in Europe” series, to coincide with the anniversary of the launch of Microsoft’s Open Data Campaign. The event was an occasion to take stock of the progress made on the objectives outlined in the European Commission’s Data Strategy and look more closely at the then recently released Data Governance Act (DGA). The DGA, the first legislative proposal stemming from the European Data Strategy, is an opportunity to develop a better culture of data sharing in Europe. Done right, it can contribute to boosting Europe’s data economy, and help drive the type of data collaborations necessary to support the EU’s Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation objectives.
This interactive digital event provided a forum for the policy, business, and data communities to re-convene once again and discuss ways to foster greater data sharing and collaboration in Europe. Building from best practices and use cases, a panel of selected speakers representing European institutions, businesses and the open data community outlined proposed solutions for the Data Governance Act to create trust and enable voluntary data collaborations between different actors of the European data economy
